Why TPO

Watertight Protection for Commercial Properties

Our systematic process begins with thorough substrate preparation, ensuring proper insulation and drainage design that meets Utah’s snow load requirements. We handle complete tear-offs, retrofit applications, and new construction installations with attention to moisture-barrier integrity and thermal performance.

During installation, you can expect certified crews from Rhino Roofing and Exteriors to complete heat-welded seams that create continuous watertight barriers across your entire roof surface. Projects are completed efficiently to minimize downtime for tenants or business operations, maintaining productivity while upgrading protection.

Our Process

What Makes Us Different?

Our Process

How It Works

  1. 01

    Moisture Assessment & Deck Survey

Before any material is ordered, we probe the existing roof deck for moisture intrusion. A wet substrate under a new membrane creates a trapped-moisture failure — we will not skip this step regardless of how the roof looks visually.

  2. 02

    Deck Prep & Insulation

Affected substrate sections are replaced. Rigid insulation board is installed to achieve required R-value and slope-to-drain grades. Tapered insulation is used where necessary to direct water to existing drains.

  3. 03

    Membrane Installation & Heat-Welding

TPO membrane rolls are unrolled, lapped, and heat-welded at all seams using calibrated hot-air welding equipment. Every penetration receives custom-fabricated TPO flashing. Seam integrity is tested with a probe at every weld.

  4. 04

    Final Inspection & Warranty Documentation

Complete walk of the finished roof with the property owner or manager. All drains are tested. Every penetration and seam section is photographed. Manufacturer warranty registration and Rhino Roofing and Exteriors workmanship documentation provided.

Common Questions

TPO Roofing FAQs

Why is TPO the preferred commercial roofing system in Utah?
TPO's heat-welded seams create a continuous bond stronger than adhesive alternatives, its white surface reflects Utah's high-altitude solar load, and it remains flexible through extreme temperature swings without cracking. It also qualifies for manufacturer warranty coverage on qualifying installations.
How long does a TPO roof last in Utah County?
A properly installed TPO system with routine maintenance typically delivers 20–30 years of service life. Heat-welded seam quality and proper drainage design are the biggest factors in long-term performance.
Do you test the seams after TPO installation?
Yes — every seam is tested with a probe at every lap joint before the next section begins. We also photograph every penetration and seam section as part of our post-installation documentation.
What is the difference between TPO and EPDM?
TPO uses heat-welded seams for superior seam integrity and a reflective white surface. EPDM uses adhesive tape seams and is typically black, which absorbs solar heat. Both are durable single-ply systems — we recommend based on your building's specific use, drainage, and substrate.
Can TPO be installed over an existing roof?
In some cases, yes — but only after a thorough moisture assessment of the existing substrate. We never overlay a wet deck. If the substrate shows moisture intrusion, tear-off is required regardless of visual condition.
Do you handle commercial insurance claims for TPO damage?
Yes. Rhino Roofing and Exteriors documents commercial roof damage in insurance-adjuster format, coordinates adjuster meetings, and assists with the full claim process. See our insurance claims page for more detail.
